Meet Dani
A Lifelong Resident
Dani Walsh, born and raised in Bloomfield Township, has lived here for 52 years. She lives in Bloomfield Township with her husband, Paul, a technology executive and a volunteer firefighter and EMT, and her mother, Geri, who is retired and living the dream with family and grandchildren. Dani is also blessed with two bonus daughters and a beautiful and precocious granddaughter. She loves the Township’s quiet and serene neighborhoods, wonderful schools, and the fact that this is a place where people raise families and then can age in place. Walsh comes from a very big and loving family, which taught her to get along with a variety of different personalities and to find consensus, something that has served her well in elected office.
While growing up, Walsh was blessed with an amazing family filled with love, support, and a sense of humor. She looked up to her father who returned from the Army during the Korean War and became a defense attorney who fought for the underdog. She credits her mother for being loving, and firm, and keeping her on the right path growing up.
Education and Career
Walsh attended Bloomfield Hills Schools where she received an amazing education, something for which she is still grateful to her many teachers. At school, she was part of a diverse student population that exposed her to different cultures, races, religions, and backgrounds. She learned not only that there is beauty in cultural differences, but also that there are so many things that people share regardless of those differences. Walsh has Masters degrees in Public Administration and Public Policy from American University in Washington, DC. She did her undergrad at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor, studying business and science, including a concentration in management and communications. Her career has spanned marketing, commercial lending, medical device sales and sales management and operations, which culminated in a focus on strategic planning and operational management. Walsh has worked with global and diverse companies on cultural training within their workforce as well as with the client base. Her work in strategic planning, learning in depth about cultures, and helping her global clients with life in a new community serve her well in her current role as Township Supervisor as the Township is very diverse in race, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic circumstances, and politics.
Why She Ran
Walsh decided to run for office after realizing that the Township Board was no longer staying true to the needs and desires of the residents. In addition to the infighting and power struggles, decisions were being made that went against the character of the Township’s bedroom community, including a plan for a 24-hour self-storage facility on the main corner of Maple and Telegraph. Walsh reached out to her neighbors and friends who packed Town Hall for the Trustee meeting. The self-storage facility did not move forward. Seeing how the voice of one person who cares can get the neighbors to engage and be a part of finding a better solution for the community inspired Walsh to run for the board of Trustees to serve as the heart of the community and make sure to bring the focus back to residents, lifestyle, and community.
